How to Find Your IP Address on Windows (10 & 11)
Windows shows two different IP addresses — the private one your router assigns, and the public one the internet sees. Here's how to find each.
Public vs. private IP
Your private IP (like 192.168.1.20) identifies your PC inside your home network. Your public IP is the address the wider internet sees — the one assigned by your ISP. You find them in different places.
Find your public IP (fastest way)
Just open a browser and visit IP Ducky — your public IPv4 and IPv6 addresses appear at the top of the page, with a one-tap copy button. That's the address websites, games, and remote servers actually see.
Find your private IP with Settings
- Open Settings → Network & Internet.
- Click your connection (Wi‑Fi or Ethernet), then Properties.
- Scroll to IPv4 address — that's your private IP on the local network.
Find your private IP with ipconfig
Press Win + R, type cmd, and press Enter. In the window, run:
ipconfig
Look for IPv4 Address under your active adapter. The Default Gateway line shows your router's IP (often 192.168.1.1), and you can see your public IP from the terminal too with our terminal cheatsheet.
Quick reference
- Public IP: visit IP Ducky or run
curl ifconfig.me. - Private IP: Settings → Network properties, or
ipconfig. - Router IP: the "Default Gateway" from
ipconfig.
