192.168.1.1 — How to Log Into Your Router
192.168.1.1 is one of the most common addresses for a home router's settings page. Here's how to reach it and what to do if it's different.
What 192.168.1.1 is
192.168.1.1 is a private IP address in a range reserved for local networks. Many routers use it as their default gateway — the address of the router itself — and host their admin page there. Other common ones are 192.168.0.1 and 10.0.0.1.
Log into your router
- Connect to the router's Wi‑Fi or plug in with Ethernet.
- Open a browser and go to
http://192.168.1.1. - Enter the admin username and password (often on a sticker on the router — commonly
admin/adminoradmin/password).
Change the default password immediately if it's still the factory one — it's a common security hole.
If 192.168.1.1 doesn't load
Your router may use a different address. Find your real gateway:
- Windows: run
ipconfigand read the Default Gateway. - macOS/Linux: run
ip route(ornetstat -nr) and look fordefault.
Then enter that address in your browser. Our find your router's IP guide walks through it, and the private IP checker confirms an address is a local one.
What you can change
From the admin page you can rename your Wi‑Fi, set a stronger password, update firmware, set up guest networks, and configure port forwarding. Be careful — a wrong change can knock devices offline until you undo it.
